In preparation for the NATO summit in Vilnius, which will take place next week, a message to NATO summit attendees has appeared on the roof of Ignitis Group’s office building located at Laisvės Avenue. Near the Litexpo exhibition and congress centre, where the NATO summit will take place, the signs read ‘Ukraine’ and ‘NATO’, and were erected on Wednesday.

Ignitis Group condemns Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. It goes against our values, and we continue to take actions to support Ukraine and its people, as well as to defend human rights and our energy independence. The signs erected on the roof of the office are a symbolic gesture, showing support for Ukraine, and it is but a small part of other initiatives of Ignitis Group.

The decision to erect signs was made since NATO summit attendees will be passing Ignitis Group's office on their way to Litexpo. It is a perfect place to show our support for Ukraine to the top NATO officials and Western politicians passing by.

This is not the first time for Ignitis Group to explicitly support Ukraine. Since the beginning of the war, the Group has contributed to and started initiatives that helped both the people of Ukraine and our colleagues who were supporting the people fleeing the war. We collected medical and other humanitarian aid and sent it to the conflict zones. Since the beginning of the war, Lithuania's distribution system operator (Energijos Skirstymo Operatorius) has been providing Ukraine with equipment it no longer uses. The estimated market value of this equipment is up to EUR 5 million. In addition, we financially supported our employees who volunteered to transport people from the war zone and arrange safe accommodation.

Additionally, Ignitis Group has announced that it plans to allocate EUR 12 million, or around 10% of the additional profit earned from the Green Generation segment in 2022, to restore and reconstruct Ukraine's energy infrastructure. The General Meeting of Shareholders approved the decision on 30 March. At the same time, the Group has appealed to the largest Western energy companies, inviting them to allocate at least 10% of their additional profits to restore Ukraine's energy infrastructure. The appeal has attracted international media attention and was commented on by top Ukrainian politicians. The Ukrainian Minister of Energy, German Galushchenko, cited Ignitis Group’s efforts as an example when he addressed the largest Western energy companies in the spring.

Additionally, thanks to the Group's actions, Lithuania has become the first EU Member State to stop purchasing natural gas from Gazprom. Starting from April 2022, we have replaced Russian gas with LNG, coming mostly from the USA and the Nordic region.

The signs supporting Ukraine and NATO have been erected in cooperation with a real estate organisation, Vastint Lithuania, which owns the office building complex, Business Garden Vilnius.
